Located in the heart of Flensburg’s charming old town and right in the bustling pedestrian zone, the Südermarkt Pharmacy reopened in the summer of 2024, offering a stunning fusion of history and modernity. Following a comprehensive takeover and careful attention to the building’s listed status, this newly redesigned pharmacy marries cutting-edge functionality with maritime design and technological innovation — optimally utilizing even the smallest of spaces.
REFURBISHMENT WITH CHARACTER
The extensive renovation was carried out while the pharmacy remained in full operation, demanding precise planning and execution. The result is a unique space that blends regional heritage with contemporary aesthetics. Featuring a robust ship’s floor, warm wooden elements, and maritime-inspired details, the design reflects the pharmacy’s close ties to the fjord and Flensburg’s rich history—while ensuring a modern, efficient work environment for staff.
WHERE TECHNOLOGY MEETS DESIGN
A standout feature of the new space is the fully glazed order-picking system, seamlessly integrated into the pharmacy’s layout. Equipped with advanced conveyor belt technology, this system not only enhances operational efficiency for the team but also draws the attention of tourists and passers-by, serving as a captivating showcase of modern technology – a truly unique selling point. Complementing this system, workstations are thoughtfully designed in the back office, which maximize space efficiency despite the building’s limited footprint.
